Molecular biology

Molecular and structural biology decipher the structure and function of important molecular players identified in cellular processes. Many exciting areas remain to be explored, for instance dynein motor interactions, DNA repair, and RNA interference, to name a few.
Of particular interest is to integrate these results with those from dynamic biophysical measurements, or the development of ‘biobricks’ using molecular biology techniques. Biochemical techniques are used to probe the chemical mechanisms, by which biomolecules operate, for example in nucleotide biochemistry. The chemical mechanisms can also be harnessed to explore protein sequencing, protein engineering, and de novo protein design. Specialized biochemistry is essential in the development of markers, tags, and handles for biomolecules and underlies much of successful probing inside living cells.
