The 4D image analysis project aims to develop an integrated approach to visualize and quantitatively analyze spatial processes in living cells and tissues. This involves the design of new luminescent probes and labeling procedures and the development of new approaches for imaging, visualization and image quantization. New methodology will be used to tackle two fundamental biological/biomedical problems: the dynamic structure of the mammalian interphase nucleus in relation to gene expression and the dynamics of cell-cell and cell-matrix interaction. The goal is to develop new approaches for the processing, quantitative analysis and visualization of 4D-images, i.e. time series of 3D-images, using primarily confocal scanning microscopy.
