The research on acoustics focuses on architectural acoustics, and more specific on building acoustics and room acoustics. The overall objective is to gain and to extend knowledge with respect to sound transmission in buildings and building elements.
We are especially interested in sound transmission in lightweight structures, as the building industry innovates in this direction. Also sound transmission from equipment and installations is a focus point, especially in combination with lightweight buildings. Room acoustic research is focused on measuring techniques, speech intelligibility and scale model research up to 1 to 32. Also research is carried out to find descriptors to define good stage acoustics. The result of this research is necessary to be able to design new concert halls and other venues for performing arts and to be able to improve the acoustics of existing halls.
