Bionano applications

The development of novel nanoprobes and nanosensors pushes the field of bionanoscience forward. Examples include functionalized quantum dots and ultrahigh-resolution force spectroscopy. An example of a direct application target of such bionanoscience techniques is nanomedicine. Important directions include nanodevices for therapy, diagnostics, imaging, and sensoring; the development of specific target molecules once the fundamental research has laid bare interactions very precisely; and the molecular engineering of biomimic materials. Advances in nanofabrication, such as the ability to form nanochannels, also have numerous applications in the direction of biomolecular analysis. Examples include lab-on-a-chip technology, nanofluidics and cell-on-a-chip technology. Nanotechnology can also further the development of sensitive electrochemical devices or the control of cells on chips.
