We investigate nanotechnologies for biophysical studies, which have application potential in integrated medical biosensors.
We focus on techniques based on the manipulation and detection of magnetic nanoparticles. The magnetic particles offer the possibility to actively transport biological materials, to control the formation of biochemical bonds, and to detect the presence and properties of biochemical bonds. Main themes: the kinetics of capture, concentration, and binding processes; protein-surface and particle-surface interactions; the probing of biochemical bonds for binding discrimination; cell biosensing (platelets and monocytes).
