Computational multi-scale modelling of super-dispersed multiphase flows

Multi-scale modeling of granular flows. Discrete particle method for condensing flow. Multi-scale modeling of granular flows
We propose to develop new models for granular flow, coupling a micro-scale discrete element model to the macro-scale continuum granular flow model.
Granular flows of dry particulates are commonplace in the chemical, steel, pharmaceutical and building industry, and are generally part of basic transport and filling procedures for other parts of the production process. For example, in the steel industry poly-dispersed, non-uniform mixtures of cokes, sinter and pellet particles are supplied into the melting oven in a controlled manner from above via (rotating) open channels. Such controlled deposition of particles serves to accommodate the optimal iron-ore melting process deeper inside the blast furnace.
