(De)adhesion mechanism of organic molecules on galvanized steel

Research focus on the (de)adhesion mechanism of organic molecules on galvanized steel. In practice, quite often bonds are made between metals and polymers. Examples of this are organic coatings that are applied onto metallic substrates for the purpose of corrosion protection and also structural adhesive bonds. When these bonds are exposed to aqueous environments, it is quite often observed that there is a deterioration of the bond between the metal and the polymer. A corrosion protective coating will then no longer be protective towards the underlying metallic substrate and for a structural adhesive bond this will result in failure of the structure.
