Drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Drones, or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, are aircraft without a human pilot aboard. They are increasingly used by companies for tasks such as surveillance, geophysical surveys, pipeline patrol, incident response, film making and scientific research. The use of drones instead of regular aircraft can generate substantial cost savings.
Aviation law is currently not fully adapted to the use of drones. As a consequence, drones are not certified such as manned aircraft and there is no formal pilot training. This is expected to change in the near future. In the meantime, in order to operate drones professionally in Dutch airspace, exemptions are needed. We advise and assist companies in obtaining such exemptions and meeting associated legal requirements.
