Geomechanics

Research in geomechanics concentrates on the fundamental behaviour of soils and the development of mathematical and experimental tools for the analysis of problems relevant to geotechnical engineering. The main effort is currently on the development of numerical models describing the behaviour of materials with complex nonlinear properties and the development of associated experimental research techniques.
Research topics: Dynamical system of a coupled solid-liquid-gas soil model; Anisotropic geomechanical parameters as a result of glacial shearing; Centrifuge modelling; Constitutive modelling; Constitutive modelling; Dikes; Discrete element modelling; Inverse modelling of soil behaviour during construction including the geological heterogeneity; Observational method; Photoelastic analysis of stresses in granular material.
