Hydrodynamic interaction of extreme waves and structures

This research project focuses on the Navier-Stokes equations. Goal of the project is to be able to simulate extreme free surface flows around structures. Examples of such extreme events are green water loading on ships and impact loading on wall-type structural parts such as the bow of a ship. Part of the project focuses on the boundary conditions imposed on the edges of the numerical domain. These boundary conditions should introduce waves to the domain, but should, at the same time, be transparent for waves leaving the domain.
