Medical signal processing

Medical care incorporates diagnostic, monitoring and therapeutic issues. A typical sequence of events in patient care consists of measurement of relevant patient characteristics, interpretation of the measured signals and parameters, deciding on appropriate (therapeutic) action to take, and evaluation of the effectiveness of that action. Often, evaluation will result in starting a new sequence of measurement, interpretation, and consecutive events.
The biomedical signal processing research focuses on the extraction of clinically useful information from biosignals and other sources of clinical information for all these aspects of medical procedures. This is done by integrating innovative signal and data processing techniques and – when necessary – develop new approaches for biosignal interpretation.
