Nanobiophysics

One of the research areas is the development and application of nano-techniques that allow controlled manipulation of cells and structures within them. Both optical and magnetic tweezers have been developed for this purpose. These methods enable to physically interact with cells, cellular organelles or even individual molecules inside cells by exerting and measuring forces. Applications are cell-cell interactions, the formation of membrane bulges that surround solid particles (phagocytosis) and receptor aggregation.
