Polymer engineering

Research focus on
New engineering materials concepts: developing of new engineering material concepts based on existing and newly developed polymeric materials.

Long-term performance of polymers: application of novel techniques, such as fluorescent probes that are dissolved in the polymer to be studied, whose spectrum is determined by the molecular mobility of the polymer. Also, in co-operation with the IRI (2-d) Positron Annihilation studies are carried out to elucidate the free volume changes upon physical ageing.

Rheology and morphology of polymer blends and composites: the morphology formation process and its impact on the rheological properties of complex polymer systems, i.e. polymer blends and composites are being studied. These microstructures are governed by the balance of interactions between hydrodynamic forces (both viscous and elastic) ad the forces working to retain the integrity of the disperse particles, such as interfacial tension or, in the case of solid filler, their mechanical strength.
