Research activities: Multiphase flow systems are widely encountered in the process industries. As a result, reliable modeling of such flows is highly relevant for process-optimization purposes. The goal is to demonstrate the feasibility of the multiscale approach, in which direct simulations will be coupled to algorithms able to simulate two-phase flow in conjunction with transport phenomena on the full reactor scale. This program consists of three projects: Application of three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics; Multiphase fluid flow simulations using Lattice-Boltzmann schemes; Particles-based modifying of reactive, laminar two-phase flow.
