A very important and ongoing trend in industry is the production of food, fuels, base chemicals (feedstocks) and (composite) materials (concrete, metals, polymers and textiles) with significantly reduced production of (unwanted) side products while consuming less energy (and feedstocks). Completely new (integrated) manufacturing technologies will be devised and new process concepts embedding novel multifunctional chemical reactors will be developed and demonstrated including optimal control strategies.
