Robotics and mechatronics

The application of advanced robotics in the normal environment of humans and in the field of medical technology offers high potentials. To enable the widespread acceptance and use of such devices their reliability and stability in combination with energy efficient locomotion needs to be addressed and therefore constitutes an important target of the future research. Human-machine interaction like haptics or even multimodal will likely play an important role in the future due to increasing applications of robotic devices. Fundamental research will address complex three-dimensional (3D) mechanical dynamics modeling and control, like for example in bipedal locomotion. Also autonomous or semi-autonomous mobile devices for surveillance or inspection or novel medical devices for surgical applications are part of this theme.
