Signal processing for communications

Society’s insatiable demand for transmission bandwidth and storage capacity spurs rapid developments in wired and wireless communications, and in magnetic and optical storage. Signal-processing techniques play a key enabling role in these developments, permitting e.g., increased transmission and storage capacities, increased robustness through adaptivity, increased data rates, reduced cost (through replacement of opto/mechanical components by electronic counterparts), and transmission of supplementary information (digital watermarking and data hiding).
