Stochastic operations research

The research program focuses on systems that operate in the presence of randomness. It aims at developing mathematical models and methods for the design, analysis, optimization, and control of such systems. A large part of the research effort is devoted to the analysis of random walks and to queueing theory. Some of the queueing research is of a fundamental nature, and much of it is inspired by problems in computer and communication systems and in production and logistics.
Research topics: Markov processes; queueing theory; inventory control; production planning; performance analysis of computer communication networks; performance analysis of production systems; fluid flow models.
