The network and supply chain design is an important strategic logistics issue. Increasingly, cooperation between companies takes place in an international context. This does not only involve the location of logistic activities but also the control over the whole international supply chain. One of the most important issues in designing (international) logistic networks is the potential for reacting quickly and in a reliable way on changed circumstances. Multiple sourcing, hybrid network structures, and synchronization of logistics processes are examples of such flexible logistic structures.
