Research institute can develop microbial production systems for custom-designed, monodisperse, high molecular weight amino acid polymers. The polymers are partly inspired by natural collagen, silk, elastin and other proteins, but they have novel materials properties as well as (bio)functional properties. These molecules open up new possibilities in surgery, regenerative medicine, tissue enhancement, pharmaceutics, cell culture and cosmetics, as well as in industrial applications. Many of them can be produced in large quantities, with reproducible quality.
