Institute specialises in thermochemical conversion of biomass and is involved in the total process: from pre-processing to incineration and gasification of biomass. One of the technologies on which we are working includes the unique, patented biomass gasification technology, New technology with high conversion efficiency. This technology converts biomass to gas, equivalent to natural gas, for use in boilers, engines, turbines or fuel cells. This technology will soon be scaled-up from the lab level to a large demonstration installation.
With a different, globally-known technology, compact biomass pellets can be co-fired in coal-fired power plants, but also in small-scale, combined heat and electricity plants. The torrefied pellets can also be used to produce green gas, transport fuels and chemicals. The pellets have good properties, such as high energy density and are extremely easy to transport, process and store. This technology is also currently being demonstrated and proven at the industrial scale.
