Thin-film solar cells

Research into thin-film solar cells focuses mainly on how to scale-up production from square centimetres to square metres, without reductions in efficiency. The basis for thin-film solar cells has been laid and the next challenge is to improve production technology.
Our ultimate objective is to develop large-scale roll-to-roll production for the lowest possible costs. We are working hard on roll-to-roll production; where possible these new techniques are applied immediately in the existing thin-film production line. These new techniques include: Advanced light management; Dynamic deposition technologies (such as printing, coating, plasma deposition); Advanced laser treatment.
Thin-film technology can simplify considerably the application of solar cells in existing buildings and sections of buildings. It can also reduce solar energy costs.
