Vibration isolation control

In some applications, floor vibrations have a significant adverse effect on the machine performance. So-called soft machine mounts, e.g. air mounts, are often used to reduce the transmission of floor vibrations. However, due to their larger compliance, alignment problems may arise when the machine is subjected to direct loads like acceleration forces or cables and hoses. Such problems could be avoided if active hard mounts are used. By their mechanical design, such mounts provide a much smaller compliance to direct loads. The active control system is then designed to reduce the transmissibility of floor vibrations.
